Metal Processing and Machinery

The metal processing and machinery (metal) sector is an integral and most dynamic part of the Lithuanian engineering industry, which in turn is the strongest part of the whole manufacturing industry and generates around 4% of the GDP.

The industry is quite specialized and includes several interrelated segments: manufacturing of fabricated metal products; machinery and equipment; electronics; electrical engineering and apparatus; and transportation means. It involves over 1,500 companies, more than 40,000 employees and is able to provide around 5,000 more jobs for new projects, which also includes outsourcing projects.

Furthermore, a good network of business support is also in place in the industry and it includes: four industrial parks, five science/business valleys, two Free Economic Zones (FEZ), and five Special Economic Zones established in the beginning of 2012.

Various schemes of the EU financial support for businesses are also in place.
The metal sector is very export oriented with 48% of production going to export.

Denmark together with Germany, Norway, and Sweden are the major import countries of Lithuanian metal products.

The main metal companies are located in and around the five major cities: Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, Siauliai and Panevezys.

For Danish companies looking to enter into partnerships or establish a company in the Baltic States, the Danish Embassies in Vilnius, Riga or Tallinn will be pleased to provide assistance.
