About us
The embassy works to promote Danish interests in Lithuania, the common interests of Denmark and Lithuania and engages in civil society in Lithuania.
Denmark was one of the first countries to recognise Lithuania's independence and resumed diplomatic relations on 24 August 1991. Together with the other Nordic countries, Denmark provided extensive political and economic support to Lithuania after its independence from the Soviet Union in 1990. Since then, Lithuania has achieved outstanding results and today we continue to work together as close partners and friends in bilateral and multilateral contexts. Lithuania and Denmark share the same liberal and democratic values and seek to protect the principles of freedom as members of the EU, NATO and the UN.
The embassy works on political, trade and defence issues. The Defence Attaché is based in Riga and covers all three Baltic countries. The Danish Cultural Institute, located in Riga, works to promote Danish culture in the Baltic countries.
